sometimes, you need to take control of a situation

Like when your boyfriend trades you in for his guitar.

Its fine to let him have some time to serenade and impress you, but when enough is enough and you feel the need to get on with your life...

You must take him by the hand and lead him to greener pastures.

My favorite green pasture? Boston Garden! I took by Nate the hand to the game and traded him in for the man at the line, Mr. Ray "Jesus Shuttlesworth" Allen.  There was nothing like watching Ray's calves get to work and laughing at the overweight old men on the dance cam and enjoying a few over-priced brews at the game.

Perhaps one of the most entertaining moments of the night was when Nate showed me his reaction to the Celtics dancers/cheerleaders. BARF.  "They don't have butts!"

Hi ladies, take off half your makeup (you look like racoons), stop dressing like hoes, wear some padded panties to enhance the badonkadonk, and call it a day. Thanks!

perhaps the best perk of getting to the office so early...

... is the opportunity to have yourself a minor public breakdown with no witnesses in sight.

I have been so excited to go to the Celtics game tonight and sit in bomb seats so so SO close to the court. I thoroughly intended to take in the sights (Ray Ray's calves) and sounds (Big Baby crying) and smells (sweaty men) of the night. However, on my drive into work today, I realized something I did not do. I have been so pumped about the game that I forgot you need tickets to get into the game.  Like, hi, are you stupid Kacey? It's not like I took them out and forgot to grab them... they are still sitting in the same place on the fridge since I got them for my birthday.

So the no-ticket incident
+
my lack of detective skills in finding a pair of jeans left by a coworker in my car last May
+
a sassy redhead emotional moment at the expense of my kind boyfriend who was just trying to be nice and I got all pissy for no reason = some tears and deep breaths and a fist on top of the desk or two.

miss frazzlicious (not to be confused with Miss Frizzle today because my hair is straight)

But hey, life is good and I am having a FABULOUS hair day, if I do say so myself. I'll get the tickets and spank Ray Allen.

sometimes...

it's the little things ...

like going bridesmaids dress shopping with your girlfriends and shooting ducks on the dash...

and getting hit in the face with a ski pole...

and trying new things with your hair...

and going on a fancy date...

and listening to this song...

that bring a smile to my face.  life is good :)

one of the sweetest tastes...

... is that of victory.

Especially when the victory is secured by a second attempt 5-footer off the glass as the final buzzer sounds, keeping a winning streak of now 3 games going strong. Catch the hunnies buzzer beater here.

This season was a first for everyone.  It was the first time our town offered a 5th grade travel team and it was my first time as a head coach.  My most recent on-the-court basketball exposure dates back to high school.  My freshman year we contemplated falling on the path to the gym so we might be excused from practice.  By sophomore year we realized that would not happen and we focused on two things: 1. shoving our legs up other girls butts so they couldn't box us out in an attempt to "tip" the ball back to our team and 2. beating Andover in the Christmas Tournament by scoring one basket and legit spend the rest of the game passing around the court because we were in NH and there was no 10-second back court rule or a shot clock.  Junior year we got a new coach and we spent a lot of time playing games and taking rides in limos during practice.  By senior year, we were back on the grind even though we went 3-17.  We weren't the most talented team, but I would venture to say we had the most fun and were the closest team.

I remembered how much fun we had that year, and I could only wish the same for my girls this year.  While some towns had more than fifty girls tryout for their teams, we only had ten.  I had the option to forgo the season and hope for a larger turn out next year, but how can you do that ten 10-year olds who were excited to play and willing to learn?!

We got off to a rough start losing three straight. In our third loss we only scored 4 points. And these points were scored in the last 2 minutes of the game.  I was frustrated.  I didn't know how to get the girls motivated or excited to play.  When I was that age, all I wanted to do was get in the game and give it my all.  It seemed like we were all going through the motions--me included.  No one was smiling and the girls were not having fun. Then, we had our first win.

We had the most unbelievable confidence booster at Wilmington and won 32-10.  It was just what we needed to spark our season.  It was actually so unbelievable that my parents, boyfriend, and coworkers did not believe 1. that we won and 2. that we scored 32 points (which was just about the total number of points we scored in our first games combined.) It showed my team and me that we could do it. I think the girls finally realized that their coaches know what they are talking about when we ran drills and practiced plays. The first time we successfully ran one of our out-of-bounds plays, I swear all their chins dropped. Light dawns on marble head! Do it right and it works every time!

AH, the buzzer beater. I'll let the pictures tell you the story. (not the best quality... taken from the video!)

The shot...

The score...

Even the ref is celebrating!

AH!

Mosh pitting...

Get it girls...

Victory.

It was incredible.  AH!  Something clicked and we are on a roll. Its moments like these that make getting up at 5:00am and everyday worth it.  I don't get up that early because I am a crazy person (keep comments to yourselves)...  I get up that early because getting my work day started at ungodly hours allows me to do the things I really love like coaching the Hunnies and clowning around.  I am blessed to have a great job that is flexible and a fabulous boss that supports my personal endeavors. I might have an earlier bedtime than my hunnies and my grandma, but that's fine because I love what I do and it makes getting up long before the sun comes up that much easier (not to mention driving to work early means MUCH less traffic and that means a happier redhead).

Whats not to love about these homegirls?!

early morning discoveries.

I woke up at 4:40 today which is 13 minutes before my usual time to greet the day.  I love waking up like 2 hours before I have to, but anything under 2 hours is a cruel tease. 13 minutes today was the worst.  I was so angry and due to my hour and a half long bubble bath last night, I didn't even need to shower or tame my fro. Up and at em bright and early.  I was out of the house by 5:20 on a dreary snow morning.

I started this blog at 7:40am and I had so many interesting early morning discoveries and thoughts that I needed to get out. Most of my friends aren't even up yet, and I had a whole morning inside my own head.

First, if you have not tried Johnson & Johnson's bedtime bath, please do so.  It calms and soothes you right to sleep. Pair that up with a glass of wine, a few candles, and a movie, and you have yourself the ultimate nighttime bath experience. (Note: The combo of bedtime bath and wine can be hazardous to your health. Do not fall asleep in the tub.)

Although I love creeping on people's Facebooks statuses as well as put up my own, sometimes I wish you could filter it a little better. Currently, I would to remove all friends who have some kind of snow-hater attitude. Hi, you cannot be surprised it is snowing in NE. If you lived in Key West, then maybe I would be okay with a complaint here and there, but in New England, USA, North America, it snows here. A lot. I know we have had a lot more than usual, but really, expect it. I know your commute to work will suck and its cold and you have to shovel for hours and your commute home from work will suck and you have to shovel again and its still cold. DUH. Worst part? Always the same repeat offenders of heinously annoying Facebook statuses.  Everyone is in the same sled.

Even with the inclement weather, it only took me over an hour to get from my house to the parking garage near Dana-Farber. Big Red has an appearance today, so I needed to get over there for after work. I parked with no problem and hopped on the shuttle over to the Brigham for work. While entering Brigham I hear moans and groans and screams coming from the lobby. Crazy bitch in labor! I can't speak from experience, obviously, but I still don't think labor is as dramatic as this princess was making it. Maybe it is for some, but I cannot see myself screaming in the middle of a lobby flailing about in distress everywhere all over the lobby. I guess I will need to watch more Baby Story on TLC.

All my breakfast food is at my desk at the office, so I needed to pick something up. ABP was not very crowded so I hit it up for a coffee and morning treat. Being the intolerant lactose intolerant that I am, I decided I wanted cream cheese. I asked the guy if they had any tomato-y ones, he said no, but offered to throw tomatoes on the bagel of my choice. Picked the jalapeno/cheddar bagel. PHENOM. I just invented the best morning treat ever! Om nom nom.

My work at Brigham is office hours in a conference room. At 6:30 in the morning, I did not expect anyone in there, but orthopedics held their grand rounds in there this morning. I sat in the adjacent kitchen and listened to the end of their discussion about how their main goals were to improve the quality of life for the patients that would inevitably die from whatever their medical issue was.  I was really impressed and touched that doctors are putting their patients first. I always hear horror stories about doctors who just do not care about anyone but themselves. It was a really nice breath of fresh air.

There is just something about starting work at 6:30 that makes 8:30 seem like 11:00 for most people :)

Stay safe out there. Life is good :)

I stopped crying over snow my freshman year of college, and you should to!

the little thingies.

The last thing you want to get to work to at 6:30 is an email that says something along the lines of “your attempt at taking minutes was, if anything, courageous.”  Like hi, what the hell are minutes and don't tell me after the meeting that I was expected to take them.  I am glad I was the only one at the office at this time, because I let out a few hardy choice words.

Then I took a hot minute to reflect upon the little things that made my morning that much better...

-  New windshield wipers- What a difference! No more streaks!
-  Lorin and Wally’s “Man from Maine”- Quick laugh to start the day
-  Burts Bees chapstick – love a good morning tingle
-  Bailey’s coffee creamer- Tastes the same as the booze AND work appropriate!
Desk goodies. Note: Clown nose, cactus, Rubiks cube, Pez dispenser, cute pics, fruit, coffee, voicemail on phone, Jimmy Fund Walk, champagne coasters, new hand sanitizer, water, peace sign air freshener, etc.

-  Listening to a Beatles CD- I am the walrus, coo coo cachoooooo!
-  Seeing Nate’s coworker tag him in a picture of a “Creeping Fig”
-  The necklace I got from Nate for Christmas
-  New knee highs!
-  The Hunnies have a big game tonight- Lets keep that winning streak going with a second dub!
The Hunnies!

-  Realizing that Big Red and Christy can share outfits and accessories
-  Opening a new aloe hand sanitizer-  clean, healthy, moisturizing and smells like my animal
-  Playing with the most addicting magnets EVER  I could play with these for days.
The magnets! Oh the possibilities!

-  My argyle lunch box from LL Bean filled with healthy food (minus the ranch dressing for my carrots, but as discussed with a coworker, raw veggies must have dip)
- Morning Meeting at work: aka what is going on with your life?
"I got drunk and won a $700 night at the four seasons!"
"I went to dinner with my parents."
"I love my boyfriend!" "Me too!"
My Bogs Boots
-  My coworker walking in wearing legit Moon Boots
